Mayor of London’s Green and Resilient Spaces Fund Round Two | Deadline: Friday, February 10, 2023

The second round of the Mayor’s Green and Resilient Spaces Fund is now open for applications from councils and other organisations, with £3m available for projects to create or improve green spaces and an additional £800,000 for large scale tree planting to boost London’s climate resilience.

Grants on offer include Project Grants of between £250,000 and £750,000 for green space projects that can be completed by March 2025 and Development Grants of up to £40,000 for work to be completed by March 2024 in order to create a pipeline of exemplar projects ready to deliver when additional funding becomes available. Tree Planting Grants of between £75,000 and £500,000 for large scale tree planting and woodland creation sites over two planting seasons, by March 2025 are also on offer as part of the Mayor’s Trees for London programme. 

Applications need to be submitted by 10th February 2023 and a decision about which projects receive grant funding is expected to be made in March 2023.

RIBA Research Opportunities | Various deadlines

This year’s RIBA President’s Awards for Research call for papers is now open.  We are inviting submissions from academics, practitioners and collaborative groups from all disciplines engaging in architectural & built environment research (completed after January 2020).  This year’s annual theme is ‘Education’ and the submission deadline is 5 July 2021

The 2021 RIBA Research Fund is now open for applications. We welcome applications to support all research topics as long as the subject matter and final outputs are relevant to the advancement of architecture and associated disciplines and professions. Applications are welcome from individuals or teams from architectural practices and academia at any stage of their research careers. The maximum amount that applicants can apply for is £10,000, and the deadline is 23 July 2021.

RIBA and Architects Declare have launched an open call for evidence and research around six key themes on climate action. Submissions will be selected for a report, culminating in its discussion at the Built Environment Summit, which will be held virtually and in London the week before COP26. Applications to contribute to the report and/or conference due 1 June 2021; expression of interest to sit on the Expert Advisory Panel due 25 May 2021. All details available here.

Congratulations to George Hintzen, DS10 alumnus, on receiving funding through Dragon’s Den for further development of his company TOAD.ai

TOAD.ai is a “data-driven outdoor advertising agency powered by technology.”

It was founded by George Hintzen in 2017, and their focus is on consolidating all of the UK’s outdoor advertising locations and layering it with geo-spatial audience data.

Award-winning Architect George held computational roles at top UK offices Heatherwick Studio, Zaha Hadid and Wilkinson Eyre on groundbreaking projects in like the Bombay Sapphire Distillery and Battersea Power Station. He specialised in optimisation of complex geometries and integrated signage – communicative architecture. Drawing from his experiences, he moved into the world of Outdoor Advertising – where the built environment meets media. He loves retrofit infrastructure: Mobile phone masts, billboards and treehouses.
