The Raum of Requirement

DS is to be seen as an experimental architectural lab where the absurd, the dream, the fact, the desire and the confusion intersect to create the unexpected.

Students were asked to consider the multiple meanings of the word Raum and the possibility that the requirement might be delight.

The year started with the prototypical object, where through collages and drawings the subject/object/location and allegories were uncovered with the aim to develop individual briefs.

Final year students continued these initial studies into their thesis
project. First year diploma on the otherhand had to evolve this early work with a new seemingly prosaic brief for a ‘guesthouse’ set in Folkestone.
