The Retreat, in Folkestone, is a meeting ground and practice/perform space for active retirees from the circus world. Unlike a traditional circus, the Retreat is a permanent structure, secured to the site by three steel structural rings. It has with it’s canvas cover, tent-like attributes. In addition there is rigging for re-organisation and a caravan site for the acts to live in. Some of these caravans are static allowing longer stays but temporary lots are available for visiting retirees. Seasonal performances are given to the local...

Movement capture devices
Post by MAADM originally posted 9 months ago.
MA Architecture and Digital Media update: This year, the Applied Animation module, directed by Nick Puckett, examined the opportunities presented by making movement capture devices. Using the Arduino board and standard sensors, custom-designed analogue devices were used to drive animations in Maya. This approach allows the complex data derived from physical devices to be reflected in the animations. Also, in keeping with Nick’s wider research interests, these mechanisms suggest the possibility of employing hardware devices as design tools.
The students present their finished piec...
